Sofie Bird Moller

Sofie Bird Moller

Moller is known for her work with found materials such as fashion ads, photos, old prints, billboards and similar objects. Her work explores the immanent flow of images from mass known fashion magazines and artist intervention. Pages torn out of well known fashion magazines and printed over with both precision and decided violence, so the motiv appears as an abstract form. The reshaped works and painted shapes partly obscure what lies beneath, and anthropomorphic figures are suggested through thick, lush brush strokes – replacing the extensively photoshopped and manipulated bodies in the original image.

I was drawn to Moller’s work due to her expressive brush strokes and how she covers up images with paint, leaving what once was there covered up so the viewer gets to interpret what once was. This is something I felt linked with my work it thought process very well. I wanted to include my love for history into my work without making it extremely obvious or tacky.

Specifically talking about tombs and how after centuries have passed they get covered and forgotten about until archaeologists come to find the old remnants of time.
